Irfan Jafar is a top Sales Specialist at VMware, an organization that believes that software has the power to unlock new opportunities for people and our planet. VMware looks beyond the barriers of compromise to engineer new ways to make technologies work together seamlessly. Irfan is a technology sales professional with a clear goal to help his customers become more successful. He believes that, as a sales professional, it is his responsibility to be able to provide the best possible solution to his customers’ business and IT challenges. Irfan is a big believer in personal growth and development and strives every day to be a better human than he was the day before.
In this episode, Irfan talks about his sales style and philosophy which are rooted in empathy, passion, and a genuine curiosity to solve his customers’ problems. Irfan and Scott discuss the power of visualization and maintaining a positive attitude in sales. Sometimes, your mind and your attitude can be your greatest assets. Irfan speaks to his three keys to success. These include being passionate and exceptional, curating disciplined habits and focus, and starting with the end in mind. Irfan is very thoughtful and detailed in his actions and he does not do something unless it will help lead him to achieve personal or professional goals. This approach has led to a tremendous amount of success for Irfan throughout his sales career.
Irfan continues by taking the audience through a typical day in the life. He wakes up consistently at 4:15 every morning, makes his pre-workout drink, reads or listens to podcasts for about thirty minutes to allow his meal to kick in, and completes a solid forty-five-minute workout. From there, Irfan writes down his top three priorities of the day – it is key to point out these are not the same as escalations that occur throughout the day. Irfan then approaches his day by visualizing a day that goes incredibly well. This is another key to Irfan’s success. Irfan finishes his day in a similar manner to how he started it, by listening to podcasts, reading, or catching up on any learnings. Finally, Irfan charges the audience with a very specific actionable challenge. He challenges them to start their day at 4:30 am, complete a workout, do some reading and be very disciplined around your priorities. Then, pick three accounts to set up C-level meetings, and remember that your mind is a wonderful thing. Just like thinking small, thinking big is a choice.
