Tweetables:
“What we often do in difficult situations is we react as opposed to respond. And you always want to give yourself time to respond.” (09:57)
“You can navigate these conversations. The key is to open with giving yourself space to have your thoughts prepared. I tell people all the time, ‘If you’re going into a difficult negotiation with a customer, or a boss, or a peer, you have to prepare.’ There is no reason any one of us should ever enter into one of these conversations without actual, physical notes.” (14:30)
“I’m a person of deep faith. I’ve said that before. And, this experience just helped me realize that of all the great things I’ve done in my career, what really mattered was the people I was working for – my husband, my children, my friends, and those dearest to me. And it just gave me some radical perspective. It helped me understand that there are far more important things than achieving a number or closing a deal.” (25:25)
“I think why I’m so involved in the Sales Success Community is, first of all, I’ve grown as a professional so much from it. But also, because these people have supported me through some of the hardest things in my life, like fighting leukemia, like getting through the pandemic.” (31:13)
“For me, I very strongly do not believe in regrets, because I believe that I am the person I am today because of all the decisions I’ve made, including the bad ones and including the good ones. And I can’t regret anything in a series of events that led to where I am today.” (34:16)
“I’ve finally found my way through how leukemia and recovering from it changed me. What changed for me was just relearning how I process decisions. I think I make decisions differently now than I did six or seven years ago. I think I make better decisions now.” (40:19)
“The instant gratification that comes from ‘likes,’ and instant messages, and all that stuff, it really starves the part of the brain that is capable of doing deep work. And, the deep work’s gotta be done or we’re cheating ourselves and the people around us if they’re not getting the best of us.” (47:59)
